NEBOSH NATIONAL CERTIFICATE IN CONSTRUCTION
NEBOSH Construction Course
Course Overview:
This certification is established as a leading health and safety award for the construction industry and is aimed at any responsible person who makes day to day decisions in the construction industry. This course will give them the knowledge they require to ensure that health and safety implications of their decisions are properly taken into account.
Many people take this course as a first step into a career in construction, health and safety and industries such as utilities and even broadcasting, where temporary workplaces are a feature.
Outline of the NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Programme which is Split into 3 Units:
Unit NGC1 – Management of Health & Safety
- (36 Tuition Hours, plus Study Hours & a 2 Hour Written Test Paper)

- Risk Assessment
- Principles of Control

Unit NCC1 – Managing & Controlling Hazards in Construction Activities
- (68 Tuition Hours, plus Study Hours & a 2 Hour Written Test Paper)
- Construction Law & Management
- Construction Activities – Hazards & Risk Control
- Movement of People, Plant & Vehicles
- Manual & Mechanical Handling
- Work Equipment
- Electricity Safety
- Fire Safety
- Chemical & Biological Health Hazards
- Physical & Psychological Health Hazards
- Working at Height
- Excavation Work & Confined Spaces

Unit NGC1 – Management of Health & Safety
- (2 Tuition Hours plus Study Hours)
- Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge of unit NGC1 and NCC1 syllabus, by successful completion of a Health and Safety inspection of a construction workplace.
- Complete a report to management regarding the review with recommendations.
Assessment:
This course is normally covered in 14 days with 10 days being trainer lead learning in the classroom, 2 days revision and 2 days for the examinations and the practical test/report. This is carried out in 2 block weeks (not consecutive weeks) and then the examination days. A unit certificate is issued after each unit is passed and a NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health & Safety certificate award parchment will be presented on successful completion of all 3 units.

Important Information:
- Unit NCC2 assessment must be taken within 14 days of siting the examinations for Units NGC1 & NCC1
- Certificates approximately take 16 weeks after completion of the course to be issued by NEBOSH
- This qualification is specifically referred to as a key competence in the CDM (Construction Design & Management) Regulations 2007.
- This qualification is accepted by IOSH (The Institution of Occupational Safety & Health), in meeting academic requirements for Technical Membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH). It is also accepted by The International Institute of Risk & Safety Management (IIESM) for associate membership (AIIRSM).
