What is the BIIAB Level 1 ARAR?
This Ofqual accredited Level 1 qualification enables candidates to understand the main points of licensing law, recognise the responsibilities associated with the retail sale of alcohol, understand their duties concerning under-age sales and serving persons who are drunk and support the Designated Premises Supervisor to retail alcohol responsibly.
What does this qualification cover?
The BIIAB ARAR meets an industry wide need to demonstrate commitment to responsible alcohol retailing by covering topics that include:
- The nature of alcohol and the effect on the human body
- The mains points of the Licensing Act 2003 as they relate to alcohol retailers and servers
- Licensing law and the protection of children from harm
- The social responsibilities associated with the retail sale of alcohol
- How to recognise drunkenness and an individual’s duty not to serve drunk customers
- How licensed premises can help to prevent alcohol related crime and conflict
- The importance of personal safety.

How long is the training course?
The BIIAB ARAR has been designed to be delivered in less than a day and includes a short multiple choice examination. The exam has two parts, section one requires 3 out of 3 questions to be answered correctly whilst section two requires 14 out of 22 questions to be answered correctly. Cost:
The cost of this course when run at your premises for a group of up to 10 students is £750 + VAT and an additional fee of £59 per candidate for registration and certification. In addition, we run open courses nationwide and individuals and smaller groups can undertake the course at a total fee of £80 + VAT per person. Please contact us find out availability and locations.
