Bournemouth care home ordered to improve standards

A care home in Bournemouth has been ordered to urgently improve its standards or face further action from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

CQC inspectors visited the Riseborough care and nursing home on Branksome Wood Road in June 2011 as a follow-up to concerns raised about standards of care at the facility.

During the unannounced visit, inspectors found that the home had failed to implement a proper care plan for a patient. This included failures to provide dental care and treatment for a foot complaint, as well as other general care needs.

The owner of the Riseborough, Four Seasons Health Care, has now been ordered by the CQC to make urgent improvements. A formal warning has been issued, and further action will be taken if the improvements – which could include more advanced care training for staff – are not made.

Commenting on the case, the CQC’s south west regional director Ian Biggs said:

“This sends a clear and public message that Four Seasons needs to address this issue as a matter of urgency or face serious consequences.

“Our inspectors will return to the Riseborough in the near future and if we find that it is not making the required progress, we won’t hesitate to use our legal powers to protect the people who use this service.”
