Festive fire safety warning issued by Fire Service

As Christmas rapidly approaches, firefighters up and down the country are issuing an important warning about festive fire safety.

In Hartlepool, the local fire service has launched a fire safety campaign called Stay Safe and Celebrate. The campaign focuses on the kitchen area in particular. During Christmas, people tend to cook more frequently and they may also be more likely to drink alcohol – a combination which could potentially lead to the outbreak of fire.

Speaking at the official launch of the campaign at the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre in Hartlepool, head of community safety with Cleveland Fire Brigade, Lee Jones, said:

“Christmas is a time for having fun with family and friends, however it is also a time when extra fire hazards are introduced to the home such as fairy lights, candles and decorations. By following our simple tips and advice people can ensure that they stay safe.”

As well as using common sense and following the tips and advice issued by the fire service, individual and businesses may also want to consider fire safety awareness training in the run-up to Christmas and in the New Year.
