Health and safety tips for small businesses

Posted: March 31st, 2011 by Eloise comment-icon Comments disabled

Maintaining excellent standards in health and safety is crucial in any business, no matter how large or small. However, small firms often face more of a challenge as they have limited resources, as well as being less able to cope financially with the cost of fines and compensation claims relating to health and safety failings.

Health and safety needn’t be a challenge, but it is important that you make every effort to protect the safety of your employees and members of the public. The following tips should point you in the right direction.

• Conduct a health and safety risk assessment. You can either do this yourself or engage a specialist health and safety consultant to do it for you.

• Brush up on health and safety rules and regulations to see what you should be doing, and invite suggestions from employees on how to improve

• Attend a health and safety training course. There are different levels of training you can undertake, as well as courses tailored to different work environments. It can also be advantageous to send employees to complete health and safety training, enabling them to contribute to a company ethos of safe working.
