Ilfracombe care home needs to take ‘urgent action’

A care home in the North Devon resort of Ilfracombe has been criticised by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and told that it needs to take “urgent action” to improve.

CQC inspectors carried out an unannounced inspection at the Regency Residential Care Home at the seaside resort back in July 2013. They found a number of issues, including:

• Stained towels and some stained bed linen
• Levels of staffing and care training amongst the home’s workers
• Complaints procedures
• The safety and suitability of the premises
• Problems with medication, with some patients not being given the medication they need in a safe way, at the time they need it
• The overall welfare and care of the people using the care home’s services

The care home, which is owned by Norma Martin Care Homes Ltd, has now been told by the care watchdog that it needs to make urgent improvements to its standards of care. Manager Norma Martin, who has been told that she must submit a report to the CQC detailing the action to be taken, briefly commented, saying:

“We are going to be working with CQC to resolve these matters,”
