One of Scotland’s oldest suppliers of traditional smoked salmon has been honoured with an award for maintaining exemplary standards in food safety training, measures and practice.

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) made the decision to award John Ross Jr (Aberdeen Ltd) with the Grade A Global Standard for Food Safety after the company opened the doors of its smokehouse for an in-depth audit of its food safety and quality procedures.

The company’s high standards, which it has been working towards for around 25 years, were confirmed in the audit and the international quality mark was made official. This is the third consecutive award at this level that John Ross Jr has attained.

The technical director of the BRC, David Brackston, explained what the award means to both retailers and customers:

“Our Global Standard for Food Safety provides producers with the opportunity to demonstrate confidence in their own systems and procedures. It also tells their customers that operational and quality systems are being kept in good order.”

John Ross Jr’s director Christopher Leigh also had a comment to make on the award, as he stated:

“Grade A certification acknowledges our team’s commitment to industry excellence and we are proud to have achieved the highest grade every year since our first audit.”
