A bar and restaurant in Warwick is celebrating this week after being awarded the highest food hygiene award possible from the local council.

Every year, the Environmental Health team at Warwick District Council awards local establishments with awards for food hygiene, and the Catalan Mediterranean and tapas restaurant has won the gold award two years in a row.

The restaurant, located on Warwick’s Jury Street, won the prestigious award for demonstrating exceptional standards of food safety and hygiene during the council environmental health inspector’s visit.

Catalan also met with further requirements to reach the gold standard. The kitchen was found to be clean and well-maintained, along with all cooking and food preparation equipment. The restaurant also won points from the council for having arranged adequate food safety training for all restaurant, kitchen and management staff.

The owner of the popular tapas restaurant, Malcolm Cook, was understandably thrilled with the accolade. He said:

“We are extremely proud to have been awarded gold for the second consecutive time.

“We never know when the inspectors will visit so it is vital that our values are maintained at all times.”
