A1 Assessors Award

The A1 Assessor Award has recently been replaced by the TAQA Level 3 qualification. TutorCare is now offering this A1 Assessor qualification nationwide.

A1 Award/TAQA level 3 is designed to teach potential assessors, trainers, facilitators, teachers and internal quality assurance auditors how to train and support learners in a variety of vocational areas. Potential assessors who undertake this course will need to be able to identify at least two candidates of different abilities and attitude, who are in the process of completing a vocational QCF (was NVQ) award. We will then help delegates to develop their practical training and assessment skills in relation to these candidates.

Outline of Programme

The A1 Award focuses on four areas:

  • A1.1 – Development of plans for assessing a delegate's competence.
  • A1.2 – Judging evidence against criteria to make decisions whilst assessing.
  • A1.3 – Providing feedback and supporting candidates during assessment.
  • A1.4 – Contributing to in-house quality assurance processes.

This course is taught via one-to-one tuition and we come to your workplace to deliver it. Delegates will need to put together a portfolio of evidence of their work, complete written answers to assessment questions, detail how they observed delegates at work and engage in mini-seminars with their assessor. We are flexible in how work is presented; delegates have the option of completing a paper portfolio or an e-portfolio. The benefit of using our e-portfolio feature is that delegates can save data and submit at a later date.

Who is it for?

Potential assessors will need to have a professional qualification relevant to the area in which they are going to assess. We will also interview potential delegates prior to enrolment to make sure that they have appropriate arrangements in place, such as suitable learners to assist.

How long will it take?

Most delegates complete the course within six months, though progress does depend on the NVQ candidates completing their NVQ units as the delegate will be using the NVQ candidate's progress and development as the basis for their portfolio.

How do I progress afterwards?

For your next step you might consider Internal Verifiers Award, City and Guilds 7303 – Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS), or City and Guilds 7304 – Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS). Please do call us to discuss your options further.
