Learn CPR with a first aid training course

You don’t need to be a doctor to save someone’s life; you simply need to learn basic life support and emergency procedures. This is why one of the most important first aid skills you can learn is CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).

CPR is taught on every basic first aid course, where you will learn exactly what to do until the ambulance arrives should someone suffer cardiac arrest, stop breathing or suffer any other unexpected illness. The quicker you can administer CPR, the more chance the patient will have of surviving.

Along with CPR training, you can also take first aid training courses to learn about Automated External Defibrillation (AED). An AED is a portable electronic device used to administer controlled electric shocks as part of emergency resuscitation. You may have this equipment in your workplace, or find it in public places, so you need to know how to use it in order to help someone suffering cardiac arrest.

As part of an Automated External Defibrillation training course, you are likely to learn:

– How to recognise the symptoms of a heart attack
– How and when to appropriately administer CPR
– How and when to use AED
– The correct processes for using standard CPR and AED together
