A company which has managed to rack up an impressive one million working hours without a single accident or safety incident occurring has been awarded a prestigious occupational health and safety award.

The silver award was presented to Burnt Tree, a vehicle rental specialist, by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) at a special awards ceremony held in Glasgow. Burnt Tree has not had a single reportable safety incident or accident at its Shrewsbury headquarters, nor at any of its 19 branches throughout the UK, since February 2012.

In total, the company has clocked up more than one million man hours without an incident. Burnt Tree bosses are now focusing on achieving their next goal – two million incident-free man hours.

Expressing his delight at the award and discussing the company’s commitment to health and safety, which must include a rigorous programme of health and safety training for employees and managers, Burnt Tree’s chief executive Richard Metcalfe said:

“The RoSPA Awards go back over 57 years and is the largest and longest running programme of its kind in the UK.
“It is pleasing that Burnt Tree’s long-term approach to effective occupational health and safety has been recognised by such an important organisation, supporting our serious commitment to accident and ill-health prevention.”
